Building the IATI Validator

A new service to validate data published to the IATI Standard is set to be built by Netherlands-based company, Data4Development.

Data4Development has been awarded the contract to deliver the new IATI validator, which will be a one-stop-shop for publishers, developers and users to check if data published complies with the IATI Standard.

To date, more than 950 organisations have published data to IATI on the spending and results of over one million development and humanitarian projects. However, for the data to be useful it needs to adhere the rules and guidance set out in the IATI Standard.

IATI created the Standard to meet the demand for data to improve the planning, coordination and accountability of resources delivered by governments, development finance institutions, UN agencies, non-governmental organisations, foundations and private sector organisations. The IATI technical team will be managing the outsourced development of the IATI validator and met with Data4Development to kick-off the project this week.

Rolf Kleef from Data4Development said “In our work with IATI quality feedback over the last three years as Data4Development, and in each of our training and consultancy positions in the years before, our organisation has gained valuable insights in how to bridge the way an organisation is organised to how their data can be published in IATI.”

IATI and Data4Development will provide updates on the development of the validator as the project progresses.
